Rare sighting: Vieja bifasciatus nest

It's such a beauty of the hobby that I never imagine I would be able to witness.

Such a rare sighting!

Video is the nest of Vieja bifasciatus Rio Chacamax F1.

There are eggs and a group of fries inside.

This tank houses 2 pairs of V.bifasciatus. This morning I stepped on the ladder looking for a school of fries from the Left pair (they take the left half of the tank) to syphon out but couldn’t find them anywhere near the parents. Feeling kind of sad, I decided to let it go and “maybe next time”. Before stepping down the ladder I took a look at the new nest of the Right pair (who takes the right half of the tank) just for the sack of looking. I found there’s a small school of newly hatched fishes swimming near the pot’s bottom!

These are absolutely children of the Left pair! Somehow, someway the fries were moved away and they are taken care by the Right pair. Because obviously if they eat them it would last 5 minutes.

It’s such a beauty of the hobby that I never imagine I would be able to witness…

Second video showing the Right pair.
