Why do you work so much?
What do you get out of working yourself half to death?
If I can drink until 4 AM, then I'd better be able to work until 4 AM too.
If I can bike 500 km in five days, then I'd better be able to work until I'm completely spent too.
Yesterday I was shown a library that could take my entire ten-person team's work to a whole new level. I immediately spent the whole morning setting it up and filed two issues against an open-source project that's busy building the impossible. The maintainers jumped on the issues I raised right away. I could see that my use case was unique and that it would help them a little too. These guys are gods of meta programming, and they solved the problem in five hours while I was sleeping to recharge! Early this morning I woke up to a message from them saying they'd gone from "clearly impossible" to "done" — and at that point, why would I wait until I got into the office to start working?
That feeling of sitting on the toilet and applying a brand-new technology to level up yourself and your team — is there anything better than that?
This is exactly what I work for!
