Blackthroat cichlids (Astaheros maracanthus), or Hắc Hầu. Female-on-female fighting. There are 4 fish in the tank, and only 1 male (the biggest one). The females are fighting over the male.
Both females are currently wearing their “breeding dress” 🤣 — the coloration that signals the desire to spawn. It’s a way of signaling to the male, but it also makes the other females jealous and sparks fights.
As for the male, he chose his girlfriend a long time ago (they’ve already raised 3 broods together), so he sides with his partner (the one on the right in the fighting pair). Occasionally he goes and chews out the female on the left a little, because deep down he doesn’t want to get too involved in the drama between the ladies…
My guess is that tonight or tomorrow we’ll see a fresh batch of eggs 🥰🥰.
